TGIF - 3/27/09

"Weebles wobble but they don't fall down"

You'd have to be a child of the late 70's or early '80s to get this reference but it seems apropos in certain situations. A teammate used that phrase on me today and it made me laugh. I've never been called a weeble before but I suppose I've been called worse.

This weekend marks the start of district racing - finally, it's here! Weather is looking iffy but I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. Team CycleLife is sending most of our squad down to see what there is to see. I won't be there so I'll anxiously await updates after the super-early womens race.

Good luck to everyone making the trek down to Charlottesville - I'm there in spirit.

Lost River Training

As Chicken reported on her blog, the last minute training weekend in W Va went off without a hitch. The photo above pretty much says it all, doesn't it ?

We arrived in Lost River with enough daylight to ride on Friday, so Chicken decided to find out how bad the roads have to be in order to make my garmin fall apart. We successfully figured it out and now I'm down an SRM and a Garmin. Sigh.

Badger and Jen arrived late that night, which meant that we had to sacrifice and open a(nother) bottle of wine to and entertain each other until the wee hours of the morning. You'll note that most of the pictures we took involved wine and water bottles. Kinda makes you wonder what exactly we put in our water bottles, doesn't it ? I'm not sayin' anything, I'm just sayin'.

Despite seeing 24degrees on their way down, Robin and Jen were thrilled with the Saturday weather warm-up. Robin was so thrilled that she stripped out of her legwarmers. Only to reveal knee-high socks. We tried to talk her out of sporting them, but she resisted peer pressure. Maybe she's a trendsetter. Or maybe she loves to get jacked-up tan-lines. Meanwhile, I peeled out of my legwarmers to reveal my (borrowed from Robin) super-duper, cold-can't-stop-me-now shoe covers. A trendsetter I am not.

Speaking of super - our illustrious sponsor, Michelle from Teaism, came out incognito to hammer with us. She tolerated us for over 3 hours, even postponing her dinner-duties to finish out the ride with us. We're not sure how dinner went for her, but we enjoyed a feast once Badger and Chicken found some ground beef ... we forgot to get the main ingredient for our taco dinner.

On the Road Again

I'm sitting here tonight with Chicken, drinking some wine and cleaning bike parts. What better way to spend a Thursday evening ? The clean bike parts are my SRM, which needs to be sent back to be serviced. The wine, well, do I really have to explain that ?

Anyhoo, we're preparing to head down to W Va this weekend for a little last-minute training in the mountains. Since the illustrious Harley crowd already booked the RTR, we're roughing it at the Lost River State Park. Weather is looking acceptable and I'm hoping to try to get my riding legs back on. TGIS - as in, Thank Goodness It's Spring !
